What are the benefits of being a host family?
When you serve as a host family, you provide an opportunity to witness as a Christian. By opening up your home, your family is giving an exceptional young person from another country the opportunity of a lifetime--to live with a family and experience and language, customs, and culture of the U.S. In return, your exchange student will bring some of his or her country into your lives and offer your family a world of experiences and cultural adventure. It is a momentous decision to welcome an international student into your family. As with any child or family member, there are good experiences and tough situations. Overall, as you and the exchange student celebrate cultural differences and similarities with each other, the life of your family can be enriched.
Who do I contact to learn more about becoming an International Student?
The main private high school program that brings international students to the United States is sponsored by the Lutheran High School Assocation of Greater Detroit (LHSA). Additonally, Julie Hoegeman is controller at the LHSA and also serves as the International Student Coordinator.
